Now the world has devoured Stranger Things 2 (and if you haven’t get out of her now: major spoilers ahead), an unlikely hero has emerged: Steve Harrington (played by Joe Keery), the bouffant-haired, popular high-school guy, who we admittedly dismissed as being a bit of an idiot.
Partly, it’s because we wanted Nancy to get with the sensitive Jonathan, instead of the cocky Steve. Steve epitomised the good-looking but ultimately dim-witted boyfriend that gets in the way of everything – but this being Stranger Things, the show-runners have given his character a less stereotypical story arc.
In Stranger Things 2, we see Steve strike up a surprisingly heart-warming friendship with young Dustin, and become a caring baby-sitter protector figure to the gang of younger kids, helping them to fight off the demonic creatures from the Upside Down. He even stands aside when Nancy (finally) realises she likes Jonathan.
Essentially, he’s turned into a decent guy.
And the Stranger Things fandom agree:
In a show with many heart-warming moments, Steve’s character development still shone. Here’s to the Good Guys.
